On Saturday December 18, 2021, Les Rhapsodes opened their sixtieth season with a concert allowing you to discover Christmases from today, but also to relive Christmases from yesterday, thanks to original compositions and arrangements for harp and choir that François Couture came perform to songs and poems borrowed from some of Quebec’s greatest writers and France, inspired by the celebration of the Nativity and the New Year.
The CD Christmas yesterday, Christmas today was recorded the same day of the concert, in the Raoul-Jobin room of the Palais Montcalm. The music of François Couture, composed for the Choir and created by the Choir and by the harpist Antoine Malette-Chénier, under the direction by David Rompré, have now joined and enriched the repertoire of future Christmases.
The pieces composed or arranged by François Couture are linked like a real necklace of pearls. Thanks to his talent and his musical creativity, François Couture makes discover pages little known or forgotten by Louis-Honoré Fréchette, Alphonse Daudet, Émile Nelligan, Edmond Rostand, or from other lesser-known authors. Harpist Antoine Malette-Chénier joins the Choeur Les Rhapsodes to create this atmosphere so specific to Christmas, by marrying the magic of the harp to the beauties of choral singing.
