ABOUT THE ALBUM
Welcome Winter is the much-anticipated holiday release from Amazon #1 Best Selling
artist Bryan Lubeck. This instrumental assemblage of holiday classics, paired with the
original title track, camber the spirit of the season to Lubeck’s Spanish guitar stylings.
It is the follow-up to the enduring holiday album We Three Strings, Lubeck’s
collaboration with Billboard Top 10 artist Johannes Linstead that earned Lubeck
critical acclaim when Billboard Magazine named him their Holiday Critics Choice for
his rendition of “The First Noel” from that album.
An ensemble of violins, cellos, dulcimer, melodica, percussion, vibraphones, and other
unique acoustic instruments – layered with Lubeck’s romantic guitar sound – result in
a decidedly fresh and contemporary perspective on beloved traditional songs while
introducing a new musical composition that is sure to become a seasonal favorite.
With Welcome Winter Lubeck creates a new “old friend” that listeners can take a walk

THE CRUNCH OF THE SNOW….
My hope is that we have created a new “old friend” that you will take a
walk with each winter in the quiet of a snowy field – perhaps a vineyard
like the one pictured. A stroll where you hear only the crisp sound of snow
beneath your feet and the pristine quiet of the winter evening. Then maybe –
just maybe – across the field, you begin to hear the faint sound of a holiday
party with festive traditional music…but there is something fresh and new
about it. You were invited; however, you don’t rush your step. You savor
the melodies and laughter aloft in the chill of the night air as you draw
nearer to the gathering.
The cover photo is a real place – and yes, that is my guitar in the snow! It’s
a vineyard on the “sunset coast” in Southwest Michigan near Sawyer. A
photographer friend posted a snowy picture of this location a while back.
I felt an instant connection. The image inspired live strings, a dulcimer,
flutes, percussion, and some wonderful surprise instrumentation combined
with my Spanish guitar throughout the album.
I aimed to make this album both traditional and new. It harkens back to
growing up listening to the artists on the Windham Hill instrumental record
label with a fresh perspective on those memories. I dedicate this to George
Winston, who recently passed away, and the joy of hearing his album Winter
for the first time.
Of Note: For me it’s fun to put in some subtle underlying nods to a theme. If
you listen closely you’ll hear in the songs musical Easter eggs that should
bring to mind my favorite long-running movie series.
