‘What We Whispered’ new album by Eric Allaman in Peaceful Radio Show 1513

Pianist Eric Allaman’s list of compositions spans decades and represents nearly every type of
media for which music needs to be written. His resume includes 45 films and over 600
episodes of television, including the popular series Extreme Makeover: Home Addition and Duck
Dynasty. He has also composed for stage musicals and three ballets. Clearly, this is an artist
of immense talent across a wide spectrum of musical motifs and styles.
However, What We Whispered represents only the second recording
of his own compositions that were not written for any sort of stage
performance, film, or other media. These compositions mark, per his
own words, a “bookend” of sorts to the beginning of his career, which was
launched in Berlin, Germany when he scored Ridley Scott’s
film, Legend with Tangerine Dream and starring Tom Cruise.
The music style on What We Whispered blends romantic neoclassicism with new age and contemporary instrumental. The twelve
tracks on the album feature a variety of themes and motifs, an earpleasing mélange of moods and tempos, sometimes powerfully
dramatic, other times slow-paced and serene, but all the music is
suffused with emotion wedded to artistry. “Together At Twilight”
paints an image of lovers walking down the streets of Paris or another
romantic setting. The title track starts out in a haunting vein and
then explodes in a thunderous crescendo before subsiding back to
quietude. “Far From Here” flows with elements of nostalgia and
remembrance. And each song reveals its own facets, all performed
with a marriage of technique and soul by Allaman.
